Brazil is far and away the largest South American country in both population and landmass. On a map, it seemingly takes up the entirety of the entire continent. Brazil is host to two some of the most beautiful cities and locals in the world. São Paulo and Brasilia are two of the main cities in Brazil, with Sao Paulo being the largest city in the western hemisphere with over 12 million people. Brazil might seem overwhelming due to its sheer size and amount of people, but it offers its tourists a once in a lifetime trip. Its iconic buildings range from its neo-gothic cathedral and the 1929 Martinelli skyscraper to modernist architect Oscar Niemeyer’s curvy Edificio Copan. Those traveling to Brazil via private jet charter should land at Sao Paulo Congonhas Airport (CGH) to avoid the mass amount of people at other airports in the area.

The earliest known starting point for the Brazilian people was the Marajoara people that lived on the Marajo island on the Amazon River between 800 and 1400 CE. Brazil would be claimed by the Portuguese empire in 1500 when around 7 million natives inhabited the land. The first Portuguese settlement was founded in 1534 and full colonization of Brazil would begin in 1534 when John III of Portugal separated the landmass into 15 separate colonies of Brazil.

The 15 colonies would prove difficult to maintain, forcing King John III to create the Governorate General of Brazil which would bring all the territories into one singular state. Brazil’s government would face several years of turmoil as Prince Regent Joao would move the capital of Portugal to Brazil. It wouldn’t be until the early 1820s that Brazil would declare independence from Portugal, thanks to Pedro I. Brazil would face political turmoil and constant warring until the late 50s when Brazil would begin to grow massively.

Brazil is home to some of the most unbelievable sights the world has to offer. The great Cristo Redentor stands high above the city of Rio de Janeiro and is considered one of the “New 7 Wonders of the World”.  Guests can soak up the sun all day in Copacabana or Ubatuba, where lush mountains surround the lagoon. Travelers to Brazil that are staying in Sao Paulo will want to take a day to visit Iguazu National Park, which is home to the Iguazu Falls. At three times the size of Niagara Falls, the Iguazu Falls are widely believed to be one of the best waterfalls on the planet. Other wonderful destinations that tourists should check out are the Sao Paulo Museum of Art as well as the Sao Paulo Cathedral. Despite having very different architectural styles, both of these locations are very interesting locations that provide a wonderful insight into the culture and history of Brazil.
